Meet Harmoni
Precious Harmoni stayed at Rosie’s Place right as Covid hit the nation.
Harmoni was born with pulmonary atresia, a form of heart disease in which the pulmonary valve does not form properly. Since repair was not an option, she underwent a heart transplant in March, 2020, just as Covid was gripping the country.
Harmoni recovered with her mom and grandmother at Rosie’s Place during her two-month recovery. Thankfully Yellow Door Foundation was permitted to stay open during Covid to help families like Harmoni’s.
Harmoni required another heart transplant at age 5 and returned to UVA and Yellow Door for this second major surgery.
Five years ago, Harmoni came to Yellow Door as a tiny newborn in need of a lifesaving heart transplant. In 2020, while staying at what was then known as Rosie’s Place (now the Valley House Apartment), she received her new heart after being born with pulmonary atresia.
Today, Harmoni is back — older, braver, and once again showing incredible strength. She now needs a second heart transplant because her right ventricular dependent coronary arteries are no longer working as they should. She is currently at the hospital, where she will remain until doctors are able to find the perfect heart for her.
While this is a frightening and uncertain time, Harmoni’s family is deeply grateful that Yellow Door is here for them once again. Having a comforting, welcoming place to stay close to the hospital makes an unimaginable journey just a little bit lighter. Her mom shares that everything about the new Starr Hill apartment is perfect, and they are thankful for the peace it provides during such a critical season.
Harmoni is looking forward to the day she can leave the hospital and begin recovering at Starr Hill, surrounded by her mom and grandparents — wrapped in love, hope, and the unwavering support of her Yellow Door family.
