This Week at Yellow Door 09-11-19

Sep 11, 2019

Last week, Haley underwent a successful kidney transplant, with Zakk, now her brother-in-law, as her donor!! Haley and her mom will be with us for a couple of weeks as she continues her recovery.

A word from board member Ann Marie Gathright –

Since our inception in the Fall of 2017, we continue to learn many lessons here at The Yellow Door Foundation. Whoever said, “you can’t teach an old dog a new trick” hasn’t met anyone on our Board. We’ve learned how to build a website and put together Ikea furniture like pros, grand achievements by any standard. There are no challenges we won’t lean into. Yet, on the subject of social media outreach, we have much room for improvement. Towards that end, we would be grateful if you would like and share our Facebook posts and follow us on Instagram. Once you’ve done that, would you please share a post now and then, and ask your Instagram followers to follow and share us as well? In lieu of that, can you please tell us how to get to Beyonce’ level Instagram status?

We are a small but mighty group of volunteers focused and committed to our mission of providing free lodging to the families of immunocompromised pediatric patients being treated at UVA Children’s Hospital. We continue to reach new milestones, including . . .
  • welcoming our 22nd family.
  • Having UVA Men’s Basketball 2019 Championship players Grant Kersey and Francisco Caffaro visit our young Thomas in the hospital during his chemotherapy treatment
  • hosting the youngest ever UVA heart transplant patient
Everyday we are reminded of how important our work is in providing families a sanctuary and creating some room for joy during the most difficult of times. Thank you for supporting our mission.

A sincere thanks to everyone who has made Yellow Door a success.
