Hadden’s Story

Hadden was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer at the young age of 17.

Yellow Door received a call from UVA Health on a spring afternoon in April 2025 with a very unusual request.  They had a teen boy who was in end stage colon cancer from Monticello High School in Charlottesville and wanted to know if we had availability.  Yellow Door typically lodges families outside of a 50 mile radius, however, after learning more about Hadden’s difficult journey with colon cancer and having an apartment that had just become available, we opened the doors to Hadden and his family so that he could die with dignity.

While Hadden spent less than 48 hours at Yellow Door, he was baptized and received his high school diploma before passing.  This was outside our normal mission, but we were so thankful we could provide this gift to Hadden and his family.  Hadden passed away peacefully in April 2025.

“The stay has been peaceful and enjoyable. Wonderful people, who have a heart to help others. I cannot thank Yellow Door enough for our stay while Malakai was in the hospital.”
