Meet J.J.

J.J. came to UVA for treatment of a heart condition and suffered a stroke.

Two-year-old JJ stayed at Yellow Door while recovering from heart surgery after experiencing heart failure. Though he experienced a few complications along the way, JJ continues to persevere with remarkable strength. His mom says he draws that strength from Isaiah 41:10 — a verse that reminds their family they are never alone during this journey.

JJ brings so much joy to everyone around him. He loves watching Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, dancing to music, and tuning in to Ms. Rachel. Applesauce pouches and Squishmallows are among his favorite comforts, and he’s already earned the title of “professional snuggler.” His dimple-filled smile has a special way of melting hearts wherever he goes.

As the only boy in his family, JJ is adored by his two big sisters, ages 3 and 9, who absolutely dote on him. He is surrounded by incredible love, which makes this difficult season a little easier for them all. Having a place to stay close by at Yellow Door means the world to his family, allowing them to remain by his side as he continues to fight, heal, and grow stronger every day.
