Meet Asher
Eighteen-month old Asher came to stay at with Yellow Door while receiving treatment for a rare disease.
Asher and his family stayed with Yellow Door in the Dreamer Apartment while he received treatment for Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis (LCH). LCH is a rare disorder where the body makes too much of a type of immune cell called histiocytes. The extra cells spread throughout the body and can build up in certain areas where the cause tissue damage or form tumors.
Little Asher developed tumors on his bones and the tumors were eating through the bones toward his brain. They had affected his spine as well. Treatment for this disorder is similar to cancer treatment, chemotherapy and radiation therapy, and leaves patients with a weakened immune system. Yellow Door was happy they could provide Asher and his family an environment in which to heal together.
