Meet Atlas

Atlas was born in July 2023 with complex and complicated congenital heart issues. At four days old, he went into severe heart failure, was emergency transported to UVA Children’s Hospital, and underwent open heart surgery to save his life.  He subsequently has had three additional surgical procedures during the next six months. 

At seven months old he underwent a second, very difficult open heart surgery at UVA.  Unfortunately he went into severe heart failure and was placed on the heart transplant list, Status 1A.  Just last week, the cardio team at UVA was able to replace his mitral valve with a mechanical one so that once he recovers from that procedure, he will be able to wait for his transplant heart with his family at Fox Hollow.

We were humbled to welcome this 100th family and support them on their journey with Atlas.
