Meet Moshe

This sweet boy began experiencing symptoms around six months of age and was diagnosed with SMA.

Moshe is a the newest member of his family-the youngest of four children.  At age six-months he began experiencing symptoms of a rare heredity disease called Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), where movement is limited due to nerve cells in the brainstem and spinal cord not working properly.

Moshe and his family stayed at the Baer-Hart House where he received in home treatment and care from UVA Children’s after discharge.  They came from Altavista, VA.

Mom shares, “We cannot begin to thank you enough for allowing us to stay in one of your apartments.  Not only were we fighting for Moshe’s life, but we were ripped apart from our other children-until you guys opened your door to us.  When so many doors were slammed in our face to stay together as a family-as we faced the most horrific trials-your door, your beautiful yellow door, opened.  It gave us hope, restored our strength and allowed us to begin to heal.”
