Meet Garrett

Garrett’s prognosis is good and received a wonderful 17th birthday gift!

Sixteen-year-old Garret was diagnosed with a brain tumor in December 2019, and underwent chemotherapy and radiation.  Garrett and his mom enjoyed walks around the grounds at Stone Creek.  Because of Covid-19, his sister was home from college and joined them for moral support, finishing her spring semester in the apartment.

Garrett’s father was a front-line worker during Covid which added risk to Garrett during his treatment.   The family was so thankful Garrett had a risk-reduced place to stay in Charlottesville during radiation treatment while dad stayed home to treat patients in the Covid ICU in Lynchburg, VA.

Garrett’s prognosis is good, and his last day of radiation was April 16, on his 17th birthday!  He will graduate from high school in May 2021 and is attending Shenandoah Univerity with an interest to study environmental science/leaderhship.

Garrett, myself and my daughter, Ana, all experienced the graciousness of Yellow Door while staying in the Stone Creek Apartments last year, exactly the same time when COVID shut down everything.  Even with this uncertainty, your organization still offered us a place to stay.  Yellow Door helped us get through a difficult time in my son’s life, as he finished up treatment for a brain tumor.  We are forever grateful.
