Meet Joshua

Four-month old little Joshua stayed at our Dreamer Apartment when he received a new heart.

This sweet little boy was born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome.  This diagnosis means the left side of the heart is severely underdeveloped so the right side of the heart does all the work.   This condition often requires many surgeries and a heart transplant is usually needed to save the patient’s life.   Joshua and his mom came to UVA Children’s from Richmond, VA to have this life-saving surgery on December 11, 2020 and stayed with Yellow Door in the Dreamer Apartment.  His heart transplant was a success and he recovered so quickly, Joshua and his mom were only with us a little over a month.  We hope this tenacity serves little Joshua well as he continues to heal back at home.

I would like to say I am so very appreciative of The Yellow Door Foundation Apartments for providing my baby boy Joshua and me with a comfortable and accommodating place to stay as we navigated through our journey. My son Joshua will be 5 months on February 21st, 2021. He was diagnosed with a heart defect and had to undergo surgery back in December of 2020. The Yellow Door Foundation Apartments allowed me the opportunity to be close to my son’s doctor at UVA Hospital. I will forever be grateful for all that was done for us. Thank you all so much.”
