Meet Silas
Complications from a heart transplant as an infant required Silas to return to UVA Children’s for treatment to save his kidneys.
Four-year old Silas, his dad and grandmother stayed at the Baer-Heart House when he had complications from a heart transplant. Silas had a heart transplant as an infant…a heart that is fully functioning without medications! Sadly, his compromised immune system has allowed a virus to attack his kidneys. He had to return to UVA Children’s hospital from southern VA to receive weekly infusions in an effort to save them and Yellow Door opened their doors to the family.
“Yellow Door has been a God-sent blessing for our family. When you are so far away from home and seeking the medical care that your loved one so greatly needs, it was a relief to know that we had a place to stay, and it was so close to the hospital as well. It has made this journey so much easier. Silas loved the apartment because it felt like home. We thank you for all you have done for our family and will do for so many others in need.
