Rosie’s Place
Opened in December 2019
Rosie’s Place was made possible by a donation from a former board member Ann Marie Gathright, husband Gerry and her four siblings in memory of their mother Rose LaBruno, a longtime Charlottesville advocate for children in need, who passed away in 2017.
Since opening its doors, Rosie’s Place has served as the home to 15 families. This one-bedroom, one-bath apartment home as been a welcoming space for families confronting severe pediatric illness in order to allow children an optimal environment in which to recover.

Alex
Alex came to YDF at ten years old with osteosarcoma which presented in his right leg. Alex and his mom stayed with Yellow Door at Rosie’s Place for several months during treatment which included amputation of the leg below the knee. His Dad and nine-year-old brother visited often.
His favorite things are Godzilla, plushies and baseball.
