Patient Stories
Since February 2018, Yellow Door has provided free, long-term lodging for families of the most medically complex pediatric patients being treated at UVA Children’s hospital. Each family brings a unique story with them when they walk through our doors.
Over 90% of our children are undergoing cancer treatment or transplant surgery. These life-saving treatments leave children with a weakened immune system. Yellow Door’s proven, single-family model is ideal for these children where communal living is not the best option.
Baer-Hart House
The first Yellow Door Apartment has been welcoming families since February 2018.
The Dreamer Apartment
The vision of the Yellow Door Foundation grew when it opened its second apartment, The Dreamer Apartment, in October 2018.
Rosie's Place
Rosie’s has seen her fair share of families come through the door. Just like our patients, each home has a story to tell.
Fox Hollow
Fox Hollow is Yellow Door Foundation’s 6th apartment. It is a 3-bedroom, 2-bath apartment in a quiet corner of Stone Creek Village with views of Carter’s Mountain.
Tommy's Place
Tommy’s Place is Yellow Door’s 7th apartment and named in memory of Thomas Shade. He passed away in November 2022 and through the generosity of an anonymous donor, Tommy’s Place opened in April 2023 to welcome families.

Help More Families
The Yellow Door Foundation can only continue providing critical support to families through generous donations.
Our hope is that one day we will have the capacity to say “YES” to all referrals.
